1. INTRODUCTION
The progress of a nation is greatly influenced by the quality of its young generation. The younger generation represents a population with significant potential for creating change and innovation in various areas of life. As successors to the leadership, the younger generation is expected to lead the nation toward greater development and compete in the era of globalization. Therefore, the presence of the younger generation is a valuable asset for a country. If the younger generation possesses sound knowledge, skills, and character, they will be able to make a positive contribution to the nation’s progress. Conversely, if the younger generation is not properly prepared, national development will face various obstacles in the future.
In today’s modern era, scientific and technological developments are occurring at a rapid pace. This presents both opportunities and challenges for the younger generation. On the one hand, technological advancements facilitate access to information and open up various opportunities for creative endeavors. The use of technology can also help young people develop their skills through education, training, and various innovations in the economic, social, and cultural fields. However, on the other hand, technological developments can also give rise to various problems, such as a decline in moral values, the spread of hoaxes, and a low sense of nationalism among young people. Furthermore, unwise use of social media can lead to consumerist behavior, individualism, and a decreased concern for the surrounding environment.
The role of the younger generation is crucial in national development because they possess energy, creativity, and the ability to adapt to change. They also possess a strong passion for innovation and finding solutions to the various problems facing the nation. In education, the younger generation can improve the quality of human resources through achievements and mastery of knowledge. In the social sphere, they can play an active role in community activities, maintain unity, and foster tolerance among others. Meanwhile, in the economic sphere, the younger generation can become entrepreneurs capable of creating jobs and improving community welfare.
Therefore, efforts are needed to shape a young generation with character, education, and a sense of responsibility for the nation’s progress. Character building can be achieved through education in schools, the family environment, and the community. Values such as honesty, discipline, hard work, responsibility, and love of country need to be instilled from an early age to foster strong personalities in the younger generation. Furthermore, the government, educational institutions, and the community need to provide support through various youth development programs, such as skills training, leadership activities, and entrepreneurial empowerment.
Based on this, this article discusses the role of the younger generation in shaping the nation’s future and various efforts that can be made to increase their contribution to national development. With a young generation of quality, integrity, and a strong sense of nationalism, it is hoped that Indonesia will be able to face various global challenges and realize the nation’s ideals of a developed, just, and prosperous society. The younger generation is not only the nation’s hope for the future, but also a driver of change that determines the direction of the nation’s development now and in the future.
2. RESEARCH METHOD
The research method used in this article is a qualitative descriptive method with a library research approach . This qualitative descriptive method was chosen because this study aims to describe and explain in depth the role of the younger generation in shaping the future of the nation without using statistical calculations. The library research approach was carried out by collecting various information and data from written sources related to the research topic, such as books, scientific journals, articles, previous research results, and relevant documents regarding the younger generation and national development.
Data collection techniques involved reading, taking notes, and reviewing various literature relevant to the research topic. Researchers identified key information related to the contributions of the younger generation to education, social issues, economics, culture, and technological development. Furthermore, they categorized the data based on the main issues discussed to obtain systematic and easily understood information.
Next, the collected data was analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques, namely by interpreting and describing the data in detail based on relevant theories and expert opinions. The analysis aims to obtain a clear picture of the role of the younger generation in shaping the future of the nation, both as agents of change, successors to leadership, and pioneers in national development. In addition, this study also identifies factors that support and hinder the role of the younger generation, such as technological developments, educational quality, the social environment, and the level of participation of the younger generation in social and national life. Thus, the results of this study are expected to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of the role of the younger generation in realizing the nation’s progress in the future.

As a social controller ( social control ).
The younger generation also plays a role in overseeing the course of social and governmental life to ensure it remains in line with the values of democracy, justice, and the law. Young people can politely and responsibly express criticism, suggestions, and aspirations regarding various government policies. With this role, national and state life can run more smoothly, transparently, and in the interests of the people.

Cultural preservation can be achieved by studying, appreciating, and promoting various regional cultures, such as regional languages, traditional dances, arts, customs, and other cultural heritages. This ensures that Indonesia’s national identity remains intact and is not eroded by foreign influences.

Today’s youth can leverage digital technology to develop businesses, create innovations, and disseminate useful information. Technological advancements have opened up numerous opportunities in various fields, such as education, economics, communications, and the creative industries. However, technology use must be accompanied by a wise approach to avoid negative impacts, such as the spread of fake news, social media addiction, and misuse of information. Therefore, young people need to have digital literacy skills to be able to use technology responsibly and productively.
In the social sphere, the younger generation has a responsibility to maintain national unity. Tolerance, mutual cooperation, and concern for others must be continuously instilled to maintain harmonious social life. Indonesia is a country with diverse ethnicities, religions, cultures, and languages, so the role of the younger generation is essential to maintaining harmony amidst these differences. Young people are also expected to be active in social activities and organizations as a means to develop leadership skills, enhance collaboration skills, and foster a sense of responsibility for their surroundings.
In the economic sector, the younger generation has significant potential to create jobs through entrepreneurship.
